Tidemark help

How do I install Tidemark?

Open Tidemark's page on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. Chrome only asks to display notifications. To keep Tidemark at hand, click the puzzle icon in Chrome's toolbar, then the pin next to Tidemark.

How do I watch a page?

Open the page, click the Tidemark icon, then Watch this page. Choose Whole page or Part of the page, pick how often to check, then Save and watch. Chrome asks you to allow Tidemark to read that one site: this is what lets it check the page in the background.

How do I watch only a price (or one part of a page)?

In the form, choose Part of the page → Pick on the page. The popup closes; move the mouse over the page and click the price. Use ↑ to select a larger area, ↓ to go back, Enter to confirm, Esc to cancel. Then click the Tidemark icon again to finish (it may reopen by itself).

When are pages checked?

At the interval you chose (Free: every 30 minutes or more; Pro: down to every minute), plus a few seconds to minutes of random spread so sites don't see a fixed beat. Checks run only while Chrome is open. Checks missed while Chrome was closed run shortly after it starts. Use Check now in a page's ⋯ menu for an immediate check.

I declined the access prompt / the page says "needs access".

Tidemark keeps the page but can't check it without reading the site. Click Allow access (banner or ⋯ menu) and accept Chrome's prompt for that site. Access is only ever requested for the sites you watch.

"The part you picked isn't in the page anymore, or it's added by scripts."

The site changed its layout, or that part is drawn by JavaScript after the page loads. Tidemark reads the page as the server sends it and doesn't run the page's scripts. Pick the part again, pick a larger area (↑), or watch the whole page.

"No text found: this page is probably built by scripts."

Some sites (web apps) send an empty page and build everything with JavaScript. Tidemark can't read those in version 1.0.

"Access refused (401/403)."

The page needs you to be signed in, or the site blocks automated visits. With Pro, turn on Use my login cookies for that page (More options): your browser then sends your cookies for that site with each check. Tidemark never reads your cookies.

"Page not found (404)."

The address changed or the page was removed. Open it from the site and watch it again.

I get alerts for changes that don't matter (dates, "5 minutes ago", counters).

Watch just the part you care about with the picker. With Pro, turn on Ignore dates and times or Ignore number-only changes (don't use the latter to watch a price).

How do conditions work? (Pro)

In More options, Notify me when: some text appears (e.g. "In stock"), some text disappears (e.g. "Sold out"), the number goes below / above a value. Number conditions need a picked part of the page (the price): Tidemark reads the first number in it, understanding "1.299,00 €", "$1,299.00" and "1 299,90 €". Changes that don't meet the condition are still recorded in the history, without a notification.

Where do I see what changed?

Click the notification, or click the page in the Tidemark popup. The Changes page shows before and after with removed and added words highlighted. Pro keeps the last 30 changes per page and exports them as CSV.

Notifications don't show up.

Check Tidemark's settings (Desktop notifications on), then your system: Windows Settings → System → Notifications → Google Chrome, macOS System Settings → Notifications → Google Chrome, and Focus / Do Not Disturb modes. The toolbar badge counts unseen changes either way.

The Free plan and Pro.

Free: 3 pages, whole page or part, every 30 minutes or more, notifications, last change. Pro: unlimited pages, down to every minute, conditions, the last 30 changes per page + CSV, noise filters, login cookies, pause/resume all. If Pro stops on this browser (license removed, refunded, or not verified for more than 30 days), nothing is deleted: the 3 oldest pages keep being checked at Free settings, the others pause until you upgrade or remove some.

How much is Pro, and how do I buy it?

Pro is $29 including any VAT or sales tax, paid once, or $4.99 a month as a monthly subscription you can cancel anytime. The one-time purchase is not a subscription: nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, and it includes all Tidemark Pro updates for as long as we distribute Tidemark. Buy either from Settings → Tidemark Pro. Payment, taxes and invoices are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record.

How does the monthly subscription work, and how do I cancel it?

Tidemark Pro is also sold as a monthly subscription: $4.99 a month, including any VAT or sales tax, with no commitment and no free trial. It renews every month until you cancel it. To cancel, open Settings → License → Manage billing (the Lemon Squeezy customer portal; the same link is in your receipt e-mail and on the Support page of our website, and it stays there even when Pro is not active in this browser) and cancel the subscription there; the portal also changes your payment method and has your invoices. Pro stays on until the end of the month you already paid for; after that, Tidemark works as its free version, and you can buy Pro again at any time. Removing the extension does not cancel the subscription. Monthly payments are not refunded (except when an update removes a Pro feature: see section 6 of the terms of sale), but the 14-day money-back guarantee covers your first purchase of Tidemark Pro, one-time or monthly. The one-time purchase costs the same as about six months of the subscription.

How do I activate Pro?

After purchase you receive a license key by email: Settings → License → paste it → Activate. One license is for one person and works on up to 5 Chrome installations at the same time, for example on your work and home computers; each Chrome profile where you activate it counts as one. Pro checks your license with our license service about once a day while you're online, and keeps working offline for up to 30 days after the last successful check; after that, it pauses until the next successful check.

How do I move Pro to another computer?

On the old browser: Settings → License → Remove license from this browser, then activate the same key on the new one. If you can no longer open the old browser, write to support and we will free that activation.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Ask within 14 days of your first purchase of Tidemark Pro, from the link in your receipt or by writing to us, and you get a full refund without having to give a reason (see the terms of sale). A refunded license stops working; your watched pages stay, at Free settings. For a monthly subscription, the 14 days count from your first payment; later monthly payments are not refunded (except when an update removes a Pro feature: see section 6 of the terms of sale), but you can cancel at any time so that the next one is not taken.

What data does Tidemark keep, and where?

The addresses you watch, the last text read from each, and the change history — only in this browser. Pages are fetched directly by your browser; none of this is sent to us. The only other network request is the license check (license key + a random installation id). Stop watching a page deletes its data and gives back access to that site when no other page of it is watched. Reset all data (Settings → Privacy) deletes everything; site access you granted stays until you remove it in chrome://extensions → Tidemark → Details → Site access.

How do I uninstall Tidemark?

If you have Pro, first go to Settings → License → Remove license from this browser, so this installation no longer counts toward your 5. Then right-click the Tidemark icon → Remove from Chrome, or go to chrome://extensions → Tidemark → Remove. Uninstalling deletes your watched pages, their history and your settings from this browser, and removes the site access you granted.
